What cities are doing the best, the best and why?

Well, the best in like a growing bringing in new people expanding. And we have an article that we can show off on that one. Yeah. So we’re going to go split screen for just a moment here. And yes, we’ll go we’ll hit that just a second, so we’ll show the article first and then we’ll see who’s going to talk about it in particular first. So we have our Engman article that is showing off what’s going on here and now what we’re going to do before we take a look at this, this is from a Meninas.

It says, What cities in the US are currently the powerhouse and they’re maybe not what you would expect. So let’s go ahead and pause it right here. We’re going to go over to our new item that producer O put in for us. We have a Spinner, so we’re going to go ahead and spin the wheel. So let’s pull up our Spinner. And what we’re going to do is spin the wheel to see who is going to guess and discuss this city’s first. OK. OK, so go ahead and spin the wheel Shana or Omkar and let’s see what we got.

Just trying to bring some new things in. It was totally it was totally rigged. Thanks, Omkar, for that. So first, I would guess that we are going to have a bunch of cities in here and now I read the article, so that’s not fair.

And so what I’m going to say is I’m going to guess that they’re all rural places. And before going into this, I would have said that Montana would be on the list. So I would have went with Bozeman, Montana, as an expanding place here. And that’s where I would kind of start. All right. OK, and then what would you say after that? I would say Idaho.

You would say Idaho. Yeah. You have a niece and your brother that live there. Right. So let’s go ahead and take a look and see what’s going on here. And Omkar is going to scroll down through our article and we’re going to see a couple of these facts here.

I’m so excited to say, are you good?

Very good. All right, so these are not necessarily in a particular order, these people are calling them out. They do have the performance index in the rankings. And you can click on these links here. Right?

What did they say?

Well, no, we’re just going to scroll down and we’re going to look at some of the cities. It kind of calls them all out. All right. And so we have a city in Alabama.  

Ok, sweet home Alabama, yeah

And so what they have is if we highlight a couple of things, they’ve had a 12 and a half percent increase in job growth over the last five years. Twenty eight percent increase in income. So, yeah, there you go. That’s incredible. Let’s keep scrolling down. And this is not necessarily the highest rated one. These are just ones that they’re calling out.

Well, that one is one that I think we wouldn’t have thought of Utah, I would. OK, I get Utah.

Yeah. It’s a small mountain city 40 miles from Salt Lake City. Yeah. And it jumped from twenty, twenty second in the list and it moved up quite a bit. Wow. So let’s keep moving down here. They did have a 16 1/2 percent growth and a thirty four percent wage growth. Wow. So their wages grew quite a bit so that people want to move there. Right. It’s getting better and they’re making more money. Nashville, Tennessee.

I’ve heard that. Actually, I’ve heard that. Can I add one? Because I think I know

When you can more.

Yes, I think the North is kind of top of our mind, but not Phoenix, but. Oh, OK. There. Yeah, I heard North Carolina was also up. So there you go.

Raleigh, North Carolina. I didn’t hear Raleigh.  

No. You probably heard like Nashville, Tennessee. Austin is on the list. Salt Lake City, Utah. Place in Florida. Palm Bay. Yeah. And in Utah. All right.

Now there’s several Utah cities like the whole state and I know booming.

So these are things that we’re kind of taking a look at and we’ll go back and we’ll discuss it and see Arkansas in there.

Well, so what we have here is this is kind of the whole theme that’s been going on during ASCE, right. Is it’s been when you don’t have to commute to a city in particular and you have the option to be where you want to be, where would you prefer to be?

Right. So it’s kind of like reshuffling what’s going on, a Global Recession. It really is. And there’s a ton going on within the whole real estate market. So I kind of explained in the beginning that I felt it was people moving from the city to the suburbs, from the suburbs to  rural location, from rural to like farm and ranch. And each one of those felt like everyone wanted just a little bit more than where they were. Right. And they wanted a little bit more distance.

So we kind of see that same exact thing going on here in the article. Right. And what we’re seeing on a local level is happening on a bigger national level. Now, some of the things that are going into this showing the population growth and the median income growth in each of these cities that are doing well is seeing that the people in those markets are doing better.

So in Austin, for example, I believe I saw that the income growth was like forty eight percent. Some like super obnoxious number. Right. So maybe we’ll go back and show that off and I’ll grab that number in particular. Yeah, I’m looking for Austin, so I’m grabbing

Here, really, you Know, it’s the  prominent liberal enclave in Texas. And what they are showing here is that they grew forty seven and a half percent more income wise in twenty four, just over 20 percent for their population. Right. So they grew up with a lot more people and their average income went up dramatically.

And I would say it’s not even necessarily the big companies and corporations moving their headquarters to these cities if more people are moving in. Right. Than more money is spent and, you know, you need more or it’s going to result in more jobs and I don’t know.

Yes. And then whenever people end up moving from like California or Silicon Valley or any one of those things, then they can live where they kind of choose. I was talking to one of my good friends in college roommate. His name is SIRF. And so there’s a plug for him. Great guy, doing amazing in life for himself and his first family. And he’s within the technology sector and any of the jobs that he’s kind of talking about. He lived, he lived and grew up in in New York City and one of the boroughs in Brooklyn. So when he was. Brooklyn, yeah, Brooklyn.

OK, and so when he grew up there, he had to commute a long time to get into New York City and that was kind of an issue. But now the tech companies, even though he’s there, he’s saying all the ones in the major cities are saying we only have a meeting day once a week and they plan on going to that for a very, very long time when they do go back in person. And that’s the most that they’re going to do.

So these companies are like all you have to do is come in for a meeting. They want a blank and fill in the blank, whether it’s once a month, once a week, or we want you to come in for like two days on a Tuesday, in a Wednesday and fly in and fly back out once a month. So now you only have to go to the office like 12 times a year for twenty four days total. And we have these group meetings and you go home and do your stuff and then come back. So that allows for a huge change.

And, you know, as long as you have Internet, as long as you have good Internet and access to an airport can be a big thing. An airport, I mean, just in Bozeman alone, you know, it’s this tiny little airport. And we have heard that they’re adding they were going to add like 70 new flights per day. Was it I mean, it’s insane per day to that airport. So they’re going to have to expand it a little bit.

Now, there is quite a bit going on there. Yeah. And I think you will see a lot of change. This is with covid and just everything that’s been going on. I think we’re  in for, like I said, global reshuffle.

I believe we’re in a great situation here with our airport situation. We have a very good airport and we have a lot of ins and outs and a ton of direct flights. So that’s going to make it really easy for people to get from us from different locations here and allow them to come to work, so to speak, for a couple of days a month. And I would that would lead to a lot of people. You know, being able to move here and work here, any one of those different things.

So side note I heard at one time, I don’t know if this is true, that DFW Airport was the size of Rhode Island.

Yeah, we would maybe fact check that one, I heard that, too, and then the Internet came along and I don’t know if that’s really the case.  

I don’t know either. But it would be interesting. I mean, it’s huge.

Maybe Rhode Island’s the size of the DFW Metroplex. Possibly. I don’t know. I don’t know. But I mean, Rhode Island’s still a state. I know. Maybe it had is much. I don’t know. I mean, all we heard was chat in right now. Remind maybe the Internet can check us fact check us on that one.

But I don’t believe everything I read on the Internet.  It’s not always right. No. OK, are you good there? I’m good.
